Every month I’m presenting a cool yarn shop in Vancouver and around on our newsletter. Since it’s only once a month, it’s a good way to share great places to get our yarn. The first store is Urban Yarns, this huge store full of amazing colourful and soft yarn. There are two locations, one on W 10th Ave in Point Grey, and another one on the North Shore.

I had a great chat with Lindsay, one of the amazing workers there, sitting on their nice and cozy couch and the end of the store. Urban Yarns has been opened since 2005. The owners, Anina and Jan have done a great job in decorating the store and bringing to us a great selection of yarn brand, such as Sweet Georgia, Spud & Chloe, Madelinetosh, and so on. Plus, what really touched me is how staff is open, funny, and extremely welcoming. Hosting lots of classes, you are sure to learn that skill you’re missing.

Great designers started at Urban Yarns, such as Sandra Dunkin, Ruth Hawke, the girls from Tin Can Knits, and Sylvanna Baugh.

Lindsay shared with me the great project with the Perfect Ten book. Ten designers that either still work at Urban Yarns or have worked there before. They all came up with new designs and have donated the earnings rights. All the  profits from the sale are donated to a weaving and sewing learning center of Mekong Blue, in Cambodia. Such an amazing project and beautiful designs too. To learn more about Mekong Blue, please visit their website mekongblue.com

I want to thank Lindsay for having me and sharing their story.

You can find their locations at:

4437 West 10th Avenue and

3111 Highland Boulevard, North Vancouver.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. You can also subscribe to our monthly newsletter here. We’ll be sharing new tutorials, series and designs. Don’t worry, we won’t bother you with lots of emails, it’s once a month ONLY! =)

Cheers and Happy Knitting!
